Visit The Pine

Just 4 blocks from the town center, between its colonial buildings and cobblestone streets, sits a 700-year-old tree called The Pine. The locals say that in 1530, the Franciscans celebrated the very first mass underneath its crown in honor of the foundation of San Francisco del Valle de Temascaltepec, known today as Valle de Bravo. Even though it’s called The Pine, it is an Ahuehuete or Montezuma Cypress, a native tree to México and Guatemala. The Mexican name, Ahuehuete comes from Nahuatl-The Aztec language- word “ahuehuetl” meaning “viejo de agua”( which could translate to “Elder of water”) because it grows near swamps, creeks, and springs.

Visit La Peña

This boulder dates to the pre-Hispanic era. It is thought to have been used for rituals because of the presence of temaszcals in the area. Legend says that in colonial times, 2 wealthy Spaniards fled New Spain out of fear of guerrilla attacks and went back to their native Spain, but left a substantial treasure hidden somewhere in La Peña, a treasure that has yet to be found. This small peninsula is located in one of Valle’s most exclusive residential zones, and it offers a magnificent view of these beautiful residences and the lake. It’s also a popular spot to practice bouldering and rappelling; several routes and tours are available around town.

Carmel Maranathá

The name is made up of two words, “Carmel” meaning garden, and “Marana Tha” meaning “Come, Lord. The Carmelites built it in the seventies as a garden to welcome the Lord, much like its name. This castle-like house of prayer has different architectural spaces, such as the doctrinal fountain that invite reflection and prayer.
